Since some dingbat blabbed away a warning to all in the media recently about how some brain dead are going around slipping bits of paper or sticky tape over the door handle when its in the locked position, holding it in place with the door hold catch so occupants are locked in as the outer door handle is held closed, we will now certainly have more incidences of it from moronic copy cats .......
This mod allows you to get out and catch them hopefully...... Let the Dog or Henry at them.
Covered the thing many years ago but here's how to combat it if it happens to you....
A bit of prep work required before hand,you will need;
A drill and a sharp 4mm bit.
A small bit of 4mm wire , 150mm longish..... small tent peg or welding rod ideal.
Ability to drill a straight hole thru about4 layers.
Mark a spot directly below and inline with the bottom screw hole of the inside door latch, on the door frame not the plastic latch, about 8mm below the fascia, so it will come out on the outside latch in the middle of the "year dial" embossed under the outer handle ... Needs to be straight, you will be drilling thru the door frame as well as the sliding panel inside the door, just need a sharp bit and a steady pressure.... Not thru the outer door its not involved.
Once hole is drilled you can use a bit of black silastic, just a tad to cover the outer hole, mudwasps etc ... place you tent peg unlocker in van so if some bustard tags your door you just push the peg thru the hole form inside, this will push the outer handle open enough for you to move the lock to open, remove your peg and you can open the door, door won't open if wire/peg in place.....
Most important your Wire Key must stay in van where you can get it......
If the bugga used a big wad of gaffa might need some force..

..... the hole you drilled.
... Your master key to open ............................................
.... Door unlocked ....
