Webber alternative, that fits in hatch

My wife bought me one of the best presents ever. She knew how I was wanting a webber, but was not happy about the storage options, I was always searching for a roasting style BBQ that would fit in the jayco hatch.

It's well made, totally stainless steel, has a nonstick hot plate and runs off the gas outlet on the van. It has a good size grill, fine for a family of 4. Everything comes apart well for cleaning.

Here it is, gave it a great run up at sheep yard flat over the weekend, doing, burgers, roast beef and pizzas. (All on different nights!!) excuse the raindrops in the back ground!

This looks to be a very nice piece of kit.

I did some looking on the web and found this web site which I think is the manufacturer of the BBQ. They have a factory at Port Stephens NSW and started with marine grade stainless steel BBQs for boats and now make a cheaper version in non marine grade stainless steel for caravans. Mind you some of their more expensive ones look fantastic, but you might need a bigger van to carry it in.

Click on Caravan BBQs and the one above looks like a sizzler deluxe #2 with high lid ($399).

They also have a couple of interesting options, a couple of slides on which to mount it that may fit in the tunnel hatch on a Starcraft (or other similar vans). They can be viewed by clicking on "Mounts and Stands" the swivel slide for $130 looks good.

Also another option is the $50 cooking rack which would enable you to use burners directly and also set up as an oven.

I hope I don't sound like a salesman, but the first I saw of these was the post above and I have no connection with the company. However, these do look like a neat Australian made product.

PS Witworths seem to be their main agent though it looks like they may sell directly from factory (I would email or phone first).

Did you get the cooking rack?

The rack looks an interesting option, if the cooking rack works we could replace our old gas camp stove (for boiling water and so on) and carry less stuff, but first have to get our new van in mid December :adoration:.

We are at the stage of looking at options for a BBQ, BabyQ, etc and your nice bit of kit that looks like a good choice, especially when combined along with a van trip to Port Stephens factory in early 2015.

Yeah I got the cooking rack, I still put my roast in a disposable foil tray, the hotplate just lifts out, held in place by a couple of spring clips, then the cooking rack slots in.

I like th option of using the BBQ like an oven, for pizzas and so on as well as a hot plate.
While many people are happy to store the webber in the car or in the van or add a storage box, I wanted something that would fit in the hatch.

I think I might have a canvas bag made up for it to try and protect it.

The oven option sounds good. I also like the foil tray idea, as it would make cleaning up easy.

Did you see the sliders on the web site?
They look interesting, although a bag means it is easier to move around. Will be interested to see what you do about storage.

Thanks for the feedback it certainly makes this a serious option for our BBQ once we get our van.

same here.
Ive got a porch as part of my annex that I can set up any time. Was thinking of popping bbq off slide if raining and put on drop down table. Assuming it comes off easy

A good plan, but would need to come off slide easy.

The web site said it was easy to take off, but of course that is the manufacturers web site, I always like independent opinion on issues like this o_O

If really miserable weather I would cook inside anyway.
