Stabilizer bars and towing mirrors

Hi all,

Who actually uses stabilizer bars, and how effective are they? What brands are favoured the most?

What about towing mirrors? We had one of those cheap versions with rubber straps that just strapped over the existing mirror... the vibrations were so bad that it made both mirrors impossible to use.:smash:
Guess where that ended up? Which ones have been tried and tested by most of you and are they worth the money?

I intend to install a camera on both the car and van but will still have mirrors to rely on.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Good evening all,
I use ora style mirrors without the support arm on my land cruiser. Work pretty well for a quick set up.
Weight dist unit is hay man Reece 550. Wouldn't tow without it except when I get off road I disconnect the weight bars. There are a few different options with both mirrors and weight dist setups, they all have their good and bad.
Vehicle stability and safety is greatly increased by using weight dist units.

Cheers

I really liked those Clearview Mirrors that replace original mirrors really nicely and look like original equipment. Just that they cost $500 too much for me. I'll put money toward rear view camera system.

no doubt those Clearview mirrors do the job and no mucking around, If I was full time caravaner then I'd probably invest in a set, Friend of mine (retired) fitted them to his PJ while on trip in QLD when he busted a mirror, (I call them Dubbo Ears)
He said great for towing but for day to day driving around the suburbs he said there are a pain in the arse as they create to mant blind spot, so he took them off

I use these Brunsgarrd mirrors...love them. Once you get them all set up, I can get them on or off in about 30 seconds. I've tried two other brands but found these to be really good. Hayman Reese WDH for us

I have the Clearview and did not want straps on the new car. As garage is not wide enough I take them off after each trip and put the originals on. I have adjusted them and find that I can drive in the city easily (without the van) with no blind spots. Clearviews have two mirrors each side (one straight and one convex). Noting that in Adelaide an indicator means closing the gap up so you can not get in, and I have not been tooted yet. The good thing is that the big flat mirror is also adjustable from the standard mirror controls so you can adjust for reversing. My bigger concern is cyclists, narrow roads and carparks. As we travel more I will look to leave them on more often.

I still have a desire for reversing cameras to watch hitch and also reverse into tight spots. Have deviced a circuit that will allow camera selection based on reversing, van connected and manual over-ride for both car and van camera. Yet to test it out.

HR WDH also.

Cheers

Another vote for the Brunsgaard mirrors, I actually replaced the glass in mine with plain mirror glass to make it easier to get into my absolute pr!ck of a drive way.
WDH - I don't use one, my van is a 17:56:2OB towed behind a current Jeep GC with an off road Tregg hitch, I have put air bags in the rear and run around 10PSI and it handles beautifully, if it did have any tendency to move around I would grab a WDH. The furthest I have towed it was from Townsville to the sunshine coast on cruise control around 100K and it never moved.

Cheers

Hey there @millers - did you ever test this little circuit device out?

No not yet. May need to revise slightly as I have replaced the stereo with one from digoptions for GPS etc and it has two video inputs (reverse and other) plus split screen capability. Will dig out the circuit and post.

We have a 16' and dont currently run a WDH.
I may be considering air bags when the wallet recovers from the last onslaught.

Just bought a set of clearview copies off ebay for $445 delivered, out of Melbourne, Adventure towing was the brand, arrived last night and seem to be the goods
