Replaced the flywire with shade cloth on the weekend, don't know why they don't have it from new most of the good campertailers use it. I think it will last alot longer and it looks heaps better. Also have put plastic covers on the upper windows, they are zipped so they can be opened, just made it to fit between the skirt and the flywire, heaps more light in bad weather.

Thanks, Yes I am a vehicle trimmer by trade, the plastic insert has velcro so you just rip the flywire panel off and replace it with the plastic and then place the original flywire back over the top, I made a set for the johnstones and they posted a pic some where on this forum of the plastic covers before putting them up, they put me onto this site. I will shortly be selling sets of them on ebay. I will also be making some plastic and canvas covers for the hard top bed ends that will be way cheaper than what I have seen on the market.
The midgee screen is probably a good replacement as being a tighter weave would be more durable, I nearly used Vistaweave but it would not have let as much breeze through.

Hi Crustt, love the plastic window, what a brilliant idea. Do you have a link to your ebay listing?

There is the link for ebay, bit more to pay though with the fees, they certainly take their pound of flesh these days.

I still have not done the hard lid cover, I am just waiting on one to work on and work out the finer points. Will be doing it soon.

Things move slowly in crustty land the suns shining and the surfs been good, if this is global warming, hurry it up!:)

OMG just had such a giggle to myself (sorry, was at your expense!) Had a look at your ebay site, by the way excellent product and exactly what we want, and noticed the negative feed back score. All from the same woman! What a pain in the bum, there's no pleasing some people. Life's far too short :amen:

A couple of pics to explain better how they fit.
1. Remove the existing flywire.
2. Put the clear window in it's place.
3. Put the fly wire back into place over the top of the clear plastic window.

Love the clear windows crustt. Have seen similar advertised elsewhere but no zip.
Will be dragging the expanda out from under it's cover and check sizes on the weekend and will contact you for ordering and payment details.

Cheers,
David

Yeah, I thought I had an original idea till I found the link on this forum and since the a couple of others, though none have zips. No zips would drive me crazy changing them over when the weather changed, I was having a chat to prestige Jayco in Geelong while they were looking our van over for trade in, they said they make them without the zips for $200 each:o
Cheers

Hey Scott

great post, is the bed end hard to get off? I have a small split in my flyscreen and want to repair/replace It. Last van I redid the screws on the bottom because Jayco used wrong ones. It looks to me like you undo all the "fish" plates holding canvas at the n bottom and then feed the canvas though the tracks vertically and horizontally till out?

Hi Jim
Yeah, that's it exactly very easy. I made a wooden wedge/chisel to hammer the bed end back into the track.

If it is only a small split I'd just handsew a square over it, use fine black thread you will hardly notice it, give it a few more years before you lay out the $$$ for replacement

i haven't had a good look at it yet as it only happen yesterday packing up in the rain. I opened it out last night in the shed to air but it was dark (new shed no lights yet) . I think he fly screen has got a crease and its split there not against on the canvas seem. Will post up a pic.
