Hi guys. I put a 12 pin on my caravan and Landcruiser as I was told it was the best connection. I have just bought a Silverado ( picking it up next week ) and it has a 7 pin Hella plug for sure but not sure about an Andersen plug. I assume it does.

Question: keep the 12 pin on the van and change the car or visa versa?

Hi @anton Smith , can only speak for what I did.
Kept the seven pin on car and seven pin on van.
Two fridge wires run via Anderson plug and relay, from battery.

Reason , I tow other trailers, and use the car rear Anderson plug to power winch on roof rack for tinny.

You can go into my jayco and find my post to see pics

I added the 12 pin onto the rear of mine
so I have the 12 pin as well as the 7 pin, if I want to tow anything else
also have 2 Anderson's at the rear as well

You can plug a 12 pin plug into a 7 pin socket, but obviously whatever is wired to the 5 extra pins, like the fridge for example won't be powered.

I'd be inclined to change the car to 12.

I went to Deerings - (by name and by nature) - alot easier from my point of view
any problems, ring them up, and they come and fix.......................

there was a thread on here about the wiring, awhile ago, I will have a look for it
meanwhile, see if you can print this out....

I agree I have the 12 pin on the Triton and my trailer is 7 pin which plugs straight in, 12 pin on the van. Jayco use the 2 & 9 pin for fridge and battery I believe. You can run and anderson plug for a heavier better feed if you need too as well.

You don't actually need both. A 7 pin plug will plug into a 12 pin socket, and visa versa.

I have small round 7 pin - samies as my trailer
and the flat 12 pin for the Van

the Bosses Cruiser has the Large round 7 pin and Anderson
for her car, I just made up an adapter as I wasn't going to put in another plug
large 7 pin and Anderson one end - 12 pin on the other

yes when she gets home I will take some pic's to explain

Can't fit a square plug in a round one. That my dilemma. Apparently it's wise not to change the Chevrolet plug as it can mess with the trucks electronics. I just hope it has a Andersen and then I think I will change the van to the bigger Hella round 7 pin.

I've had both and have now changed everything to flat plugs and use an adaptor if I tow someone else's trailer. The flat plugs give a far better connection and less likely hood of failure and a more resistant to dirt ingress.

Ah yes, I wasn't thinking about round 7 pins.

Haven't seen a round one for years.
