So

It turns out that when you hit the rear of a Honda Jazz with a factory bulbar equipped 150 series Prado you get the following;

1. annihilated Honda Jazz (No injuries thankfully)
2. A new TJM deluxe bar and a week at the panel shop.

And of course because the panel shops are busy you cant get in until 2 days before leaving for Airlie Beach.

Prado is driveable but I am not travelling that sort of distance with a compromised bar so have told them the new bar can go on now and the panels fixed later.

Did you look at ironman bars? I think it cost us about $1800 fitted WITH a 12,000lb monster winch!

@hamish22 they indeed are Nordic 12v HIDs..... and pretty good too ;)

@crackacoldie I was worried about restricted air flow, but I think the electric thermo fans are doing a good job as I haven't seen any increase in temps, even when towing on 40°+ days :) I am planning an auto trans cooler upgrade though, just in case.

Thanks @Hubble80 Car panel work will not be repaired in time but I have been pretty adament that the bar go on before we head North.
I reminded the insurer that as I pay my premiums I could give a Rats A%#e what way they wanted the work done.

On our way on the 8th of April to get into Airlie on the 9th.

Cost was interesting for the replacement;

Factory Bar (Same setup as current) just under $4000
TJM bar with colour coding, fitting, removing the old unit, refitting the spotties $2750

BIG difference.......

We just ordered a new GXL Prado today the for the polished alloy bulbar was $2400?

Mate I looked at the new factory bar as I am updating my prado late this year and it reminded me of a piece of highway guardrail with some tubing and plastic on it. Each as to their own but the new TJM for the 2014 facelift is the best I have seen as I think the ARB makes the Prado look like an amphibious duck just before it enters the water.

I will take the TJM over the guardrail and amphib any day!
