Hi there,

We have a 16.49 .4 ,2013 model of which we all love , use it when we can . Ive done heaps of mods to it and decked it out for free camping or the parks . Only issue is the spare tyre , I have at present and storage box which my brother made , custom built mounted on the draw bar ,over the spare, its a peice of art . Only thing is it has to be removed to get at my spare , which will happen one day .I was thinking of a chain lowering thing simular to what the old Hilux was fitted with and mounted under neath at the back of the van . Any ideas anyone , cheers

Plenty of others have mounted them under the rear. Just type " spare moved" in the search and check what others have done.
Cheers Matt.

I mounted mine underneath the rear but just once having to get underneath and pull it out then under again wrestling with 30 Kg of tyre to put it back up, I decided to make an RHS bumper and swing down tyre mount here.

Yeah mate I did it with a cruiser winch. Pretty straight forward if your handy. Just need to keep a couple of things in mind.

Watch your support bars, try not to make them any lower than the current members. The spare reduces rear departure angle a tad.
DONT use a cable winch unless you want your spare to auto lower as you drive.
Adjust and watch the chain hanging down. It comes through the spare and could get caught.

Wondering , did you get the winch from the wreckers ?

Cheers
Nah gumtree. I got a LC 200 but my mate got a 100 series one and in someways it looked easier to mount. gas fitters are popular sources.

I've taken the storage box off , taken the gas cylinder out , unbolted the tyre from the cradle , looks like I have the winch in hand , now just to find the time to build and mount the thing .That's next week end , I hope the stainless steel guru known as one of my bothers isn't busy .A couple of cartons of Coronas might coax him a bit .Ha ha , nice one Waz

Thanks achjimmy , I stole some of your thunder mate , hope you don't mind it sits up in there nicely. We welded the same fitting as the drop jacks have so I can use the same attachment ,

Hey mate no worries. Don't think I was the first anyway. Yeah I used a bolt head so that the drop jack handle works as well.
