It's getting close now and to be honest I just couldn't wait any longer to write something up on our impending delivery.

As i mentioned in the new members thread some time ago, we were intending to move back into camping and touring but not how we had previously done with tents, swags and soft floor campers. We went out with the idea of getting into a Swan or Eagle, after a visit to a Jayco dealer and seeing the SC on the way and giving it some thought with the intended use it became a no brainer for us, and surprisingly the price wasn't a shock either.

We chose the 17.58-1 over the -3 for a couple of reasons, 3 children being the main one and we didn't want the hassle of setting up the dinette every night for a bed, and the fact I despise portable toilets, well emptying them anyway, plus we *&%#ed in the bush for age's so it's not such a biggy to set up a proper hygienic bush toilet that is agreeable with the environment when we free camp.

Although I sometimes think I went overboard with the options, we wanted it to be pretty self sufficient from the start and some things just cant be added after the build. With that in mind I went through what I thought I needed and also did plenty of spying through others setup's on this site and others. The list chopped and changed a bit but in the end I am happy with our list of options as below, it will suit us and our intended use and that's what really matters.

So the build is as follows

SC 17.58-1OB
Extended Drawbar
Rear Mounted Spare
2 x 150Watt Solar Pnels
2 x Gas Bottles
2 x Water Tanks
HWS with Ext Shower
Roof Mounted A/C
Picnic Table
Drifter Control Panel
Waeco 136lt 12/240V Compressor Fridge
M/Wave mounted above fridge
Extra cupboard below stove where M/W was
Fusion Basic System

Hopefully they put the Drifter where I requested and not at the end of the top bunk and they also put the jockey wheel in the center of the A frame as requested, but delivery time will see how well they followed the order sheet.

With any luck in a couple of weeks this thread will have some nice pic's to add to it with the new van and shiny new tug in the front, I might have already said this before but as Big Kev used to say

I'M EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good stuff Glen, a well thought out list

yes, for some reason Jayco have a propensity for fitting that drifter panel anywhere and everywhere

what about a left hand door..................
safety - stops the wind while travelling opening the door if you have not shut it and locked it properly

Jayco hates them............

Well thought out list there. Can I also suggest an offside annex light for a after dark set ups and not sure if it works with the ext shower but an external hatch to access under the bottom bunk. Or maybe with 3 kids an extra drawer under the bottom bunk as per @Pauly http://www.expandasdownunder.com/threads/pauly-corrins-17-58-3-ob.9029/

Exciting times :)

I still love the feeling of 'is that it?' when setting up. Almost feels like cheating.

Will be a slow couple of weeks :D

I didn't worry too much about some of the smaller things as any lighting and 12/240 outlets I can do myself as it's my trade, hatches and the like we'll work out what suits once we have used for a bit, but I really wanted to make sure the "hard to do later" items were done in the build.

Yes the wait is starting to hurt and some uncertainty from the dealer regarding dates is becoming a worry as we booked accomadation for Xmas to visit relatives in Brisbane, I wont be impressed if we have to tent it with an 8 month old or worse cancel because the van wasn't ready.

Our last Offroad camper was a "quick" setup if we were sitting having a beer after an hour of sweating and swearing................hahahahahaha so we are really looking forward to the minimalist input with the SC, it was also one of the big reasons we swayed away from the wind up's.

Getting just the slightest bit don't be rude, and if the status quo is the same by the end of the week I might just tear someone a new one.........................or three!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You see our van came off the line on the 24th last month, and I saw the dealer on Wednesday last week and he was expecting it on Friday, which would have been all good.

So Friday comes and goes, no call, no email. I get home on Friday night after being away most of the week for work, mmmmmmm radio silence, time to fire one across the bow, I compiled a nice but firm email asking the current status, no reply on Saturday, no reply on Monday, Monday afternoon, I ring asking "Please Explain"

Dealer : Oh your van is in "BLUE" status,

Me : huh?

Dealer : in transit,

Me : so when does it arrive?

Dealer : I can't say as the boss gets the transport manifest and he's not in today.

Me : OK check tomorrow for me and let me know as it is going to be tight to do the handover as I'm away again for work from the 19th to 22nd Dec and we leave on the 23rd.

Dealer : Yeah yeah, no worries when it gets here I will get them to rush it through.

Current status as of today, unknown and another unanswered email.

I'm gunna get LOUD REAL SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go for it!

I'm absolutely sick of dealers who don't respond to legitimate questions.

Same with us so we bowled up at dealers and ......nothing....as usual.

Who the bloody hell do they think provides the funds for their self indulgence?

To say I'm fed up is an understatement.

@Dobbie are you waiting for a van to be delivered also mate?

We were originally told at the beginning of Dec when we ordered in September then it changed to the second week during the build process, well it is the second week already and there is no van in sight.

NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep.

We discussed....at length ....in June.
We sold our much loved Jayco in June.
We discussed again...and confirmed order ....in June
We discussed....again...and again....in July
We enquired as to factory Christmas closing times, and dealer closing times...in June
We discussed,at length, the shortcomings of their non existent communication
We further discussed these items in August
We further discussed these items, after we'd had a holiday in Canada
We hit ground zero in October
We were appeased in October, reluctantly
We were given a production completion date in October, after contact with management...for dec 2016
We have yet to have that confirmed...very vague 'factory is busy' messages
We visited today...'all on track'...whose track, I asked

I'm betting now on February

If the van wasn't exactly what we wanted, we'd have pulled the plug months ago. We did discuss it but....we were planning an overseas holiday, the van wasn't really needed till next year, the previous one was so clean after a very dirty holiday and the shed needed a good clean up.

The rationalising continues....

Anyway we're going ahead but we have many recommendations we'll gently convey to them about customer service.

I'm over it for the moment but can easily develop a head of steam, if required.

Which dealer are you hassling with @Dobbie?

Yes @Dobbie Which dealer?....... There has been a lot of mention of a new van but I can not recall nor find any reference as to what it is that you are awaiting on?

Or have I missed a post somewhere?

he did mention awhile ago that it was NOT a Jayco
but

he never specified who's Van he had brought
