Great Barrier Reef from Airlie Beach or Cairns???

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has been on the tours from Airlie Beach or Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef?
Trying to decide where to do it from as we are currently in Airlie Beach. Little bit expensive from here at $550 for the family.
I was hoping someone has been to the Cairns tours and could let me know

Haven't done it yet myself but planning on going later this year...

I check out tripadvisor and most of the islands at the whitsundays / airlie beach had bad reviews...

I am going to do cairns and fitzroy island, green island as well is nice from what I have read.

If you are going out to the reef pontons there is a few good ones from what I have read both in Airlie and Cairns....
