Yes if we win tatts tonight or decide we do the lap and I want to go off road I look the the Lotus.
Although if I can organise with school the big lap I think we just take our Jayco with us.

Good to hear you enjoyed it @Fabulous. I was there all day as well walking around. Bought a few things, biggest ticket item being a BOS370 jockey "wheel". Then some other stuff and bits and bobs.

Also spent quite a lot of time talking to people in the Tourism Hall about things to see and do on our trip.

Didn't look in too many vans, but did check out the Adventurers, but like you, can't see why someone wouldn't go one of the LOTUS's or something else in front of them. They are hugely heavy though... Some cool designs though.

Worth the prices of admission just to see what's around. Some really good and innovative stuff going on in the camping trailer world too.

Hi,
I tried to open one of the overhead cupboards and could not believe the force needed to open the door.

Worse still, is that they have put the same handles on the camper trailers. At least on these, none of the cupboards have spring-loaded hinges. Interestingly, they have kept the same knobs in some places. Mainly on the hatch in the door entry area and, on the Penguin, on the porta-potty door under the bed.

Happy we bought ours in 2016 with the round push-in push-out buttons.

I must admit we loved our Swan and the only reason we upgraded was the set up time it was taking.

When does the vic show finish? Don't you also have a leisure fest ...or similar... later in the year!

The number of shows is certainly increasing. I notice there's a Gold Coast one coming up as well and the Redcliffe one was a couple of weeks ago. They seem to spreading rapidly to the regions as well.

No wonder it's hard to get in touch with dealers; they're out flogging vans half the time.

it is standard on current model Penguins. Don't know about the earlier models with the bed at the front.

The Penguin has no pull outs for beds in the front or back since the bed is built in. The bed hinges up with two air-struts revealing storage area under the whole area of the bed. Part of that has a small compartment with a door. This is enough to fit the smaller porta-potty.

I am thinking of get one so I am more compliant with sites that are self-contained. I already have a sealable container for holding grey water.

We are getting much more organised with setting it up and pulling it down. Been out in it eight times since November. Another 3-day trip planned for this weekend.

The Vic camping and Caravan show finishes today. There is also a leisurefeast show at Sandown racecourse sometime around October.

Thanks.. My curiosity again.

Eight trips since November ...you're certainly using it.

The bad news is that you never ever get to the point where you're totally organised...at least, we never do. The more you use it, the more you ponder on changes and different sites demand different needs.

Up till we bought the expanda, most of our camping was shorter journeys longer stay so "couch potato" style. We had to be able to get back home reasonably easily...family illness issues. The expanda gave us the chance to get back to the longer journey, shorter stay approach but we're now looking at a balance....we hope.

Anyway, the things we need to carry are different for each style and we're never fully satisfied with our setup but that's part of the fun!

This time, we're trying to cover the usual free camping needs...including the Bellini coffee maker, 12v fans and the usual solar and lighting stuff...with caravan park 240 stuff (without duplicating the 12v stuff)...including the induction plate. We've turfed the heavy outdoor matting and the second set of lounger chairs and gone for Oztent chairs which can be adjusted for eating and relaxing.

So it's all a balance and great fun organising the new van with the new drawers in the car. I can't believe how much space and empty cupboards we have.

I'm really resisting the urge to add extra in case we need it...the dot and dispose of rule is really difficult to adhere to but it works. @mikerezny you seem to have that under control. Just don't ignore the chippy.

I think the porta potty in the Penguin is great so they must have changed the design considerably since I last saw one.

yes it is quite fun working out how to go about things. I agree it is endless, but that is a great thing. Just when you think something is well organised, someone details another solution and it starts again.

No the chippie is pretty well at the top of the list. It is now at version three: two sets of 10 holes around the top to increase the airflow. It was starving with 10 holes. I also put the trivet back in as another option to increase the flow even more when needed.

After @Drover's preference for soda bread over damper. I have had three attempts at making it in the oven at home (better control of heat etc). First was a great success if you wanted to enter the business of making hockey pucks! Then I read some more, watched videos on YouTube, and read up on all the ingredients used in bread / damper making: plain flour, S/R flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, bicarb soda and the many other names the same basic ingredients are called.
Second attempt worked better, the soda bread rose and tasted quite nice, crispy crust.
Third attempt was today. Making it was much simpler and it rose more and had a good taste.

The ingredients have been greatly simplified, since a lot of recipes use plain flour and then add baking powder. You know I am tight, and I am not buying baking powder and adding it to Plain flour when you can get SR flour with baking powder for the same price!

My latest soda bread recipe:
225g SR flour, level tsp salt, level tsp bicarb, about 150ml milk. Bake for 35minutes at 200C.
So problem solved, as long as I can get my chip burner to heat up to around 170C or so. Last attempt, I got to 120C.

Off to try it out this weekend. And no, I haven't forgotten the chip burner roast challenge. It is still on the list as soon as I can get the heat from the chip burner up to 150-160C and maintain it.

I normally go to both Melb shows, Geelong and Bendigo
We did not do Geelong this year and I only did one day at the big show. Normally one without and one with kids seeing $10 extra day.
Really running out of things I need rather then want

Well I did say it's been awhile @mikerezny , pretty sure I would have used SR flour, I would mod the recipes and jot them down in my book that travelled with my camping gear but mostly knew them and just threw all the ingrediants in off by heart but a good 20 yrs ago now..........Now I just stop at a bakery.....................no time for camp cooking.

Off to the Gold Coast show Friday as our daughter wants to get a camper trailer. She just has to find out if she can raise and lower the tent on her own as her boys are only 6 and 4 so not much help. There is nothing specific I am looking for so will just look at campers.

My mate is in the market for one and spent the whole weekend at the show wheeling and dealing. Apparently the Goldstream gear was really impressive. Just a thought and a tip.

Thanks @Smergen but she is just looking for a soft floor tent type which is why she has to be able to open and close the tent part of the trailer and she only weighs about 60 kg. So far looking at an MDC or Swag trailer around $8000.

Sorry @chartrock... must have misread your post. Same mate is upgrading from a Black Series camper too which he has no complaints with. Either way, if the show up your way is like ours, there is so many choices out there.

@Smergen, we had a look at the Black series and the bloke selling them told us they are discontinuing their basic model and the next one up is an off road thing that she has no hope of setting up or pulling with her Nissan XTrail. But you are right, there are many camper trailers listed in the show promo so I guess I will be looking at them all. And not much else.
