We did this trip (except for Popells Corner) in Oct 2018 and I wish I could go again now after the worst of floods have receded.
Cameron Corner to Innamincka is a good road, we went via the Old Strzelecki Track which is still maintained for the mining companies and is excellent. Innamincka to Birdsville is best as an overnight trip but could be done in a day especially if not towing. Personally I will never again drive on Cordillo Downs Road (northern end) the road itself is not so bad but the 10 billion rocks are not so good.
You really do need to do some rock proofing if you are going out Birdsville way.

Not sure when the Birdsville cup is on, do not go to Birdsville soon after the cup if you can avoid it, the road is dreadful from all the traffic to the cup and same after the big red bash!! We towed the Expands from home to the corner up to Birdsville via Innaminka and home via Longreach, its really worth the effore we loved it even though the roads were in a poor state it was still a great adventure

1.Leaving Inaminka
2.Camped beside Cooper Creek Innaminka
3.Dig Tree monument
4.Birdsville
5.Birdsville development road our of Birdsville

Absolutely the best time to see this part of the country, after some decent river flows, it will be amazing.
If I was going again (and I will) I'd go from Innamincka to Birdsville via Arrabury Rd and Birdsville Development Road. Even without the van it will still be a full on day.

Be warned Birdsville is a really interesting place and an overnight stay will leave you wanting to see more.

Stone Stomper is the way to go, even then a few might sneak past like they did on ours.

Oh I hate corrugations...................................for some reason, I know not why my Ute doesn't chuck rocks at van, they go no higher than the draw bar and with no rear window on tug or paintwork for that matter I don't care why, just happy no need for screen........................sadly Cook has done her back in so have only your pics and memories of the joints now, at least no flies..

I hope the "cook" recovers, mine is playing up as well today must be the rain lol
We had a couple of whelts on the front of the van, the damage underneath was mind blowing, it took all the air lines out to the air shocks on the Jeep as well, only noticed it when we hit the tar and thought it was a little bouncy, didn't make much difference replaced them when we got home. Mone had a lot to do with driver error, time poor and going a bit quick, no a days we can slow down as the rush is almost over

Evan with locks on draw bar mite get a wheel lock too i will be uneasy leaving van behind at Innamincka
Where to leave it ???? At the coopers creek camp in town ?????

Ask at either the Trading Post or the pub, the trick will be to ask the right person.
I'd try to leave your van in the town somewhere rather than at the campgrounds which are spread out along the creek and the van could be a long way from anyone who could keep an eye on it but maybe at the back of pub would be ok.

I heard Dick Smith on the ABC this morning, he was flying over the floods and said that Birdsville was an island and the Birdsville track was liable to be closed for two months. I'd be taking a close look nearer the time you are planning on going @Bluey .

Ok @Drover, are you sneaking down to the engine room of this great land to enjoy the thrills of the Lake Boga airshow this year.

(If I find you hiding in Bay 13 again, and you dont have tonic for me Ill be very very upset and Ill likely pinch something from the shed.)

No sadly, its a week too early specialist wants to see me and looks like a RAAF mate is lining up a funeral all in the same week.......Big Mal will be on the road in a week to places unknown, roughly between Winston and Adelaide.
If it wasn't for the Doc I would have booked a lake side spot for a week.

Those prices are typical Victorian, $5 would just boil a kettle down your way and water I would bring my own, never trusted Werribee water and I'd bring my own beer, Coopers .......................................Since your going bush I could roll up, have the run of the place while your away and get my Point Cook visit sorted suppose I would have to rush to Wentworth and towota you back home........

You live in a dream but SA doesn't have drinkable water, in fact I wouldn't wash my car in it.... Black all has the sweetest though.

A simple run up the coast in 5 weeks for us, north bound to Maroochydore over the April school holidays. A couple of nights on the north coast on the way up, then 10 days at cotton tree before we unfortunately have to head back to work. A nice easy run for the new van.
