Hey guys. I am looking for ideas on where to mount two jerry can holders on my Starcraft. I am leaning towards the rear bumper and would love to see some pics if anyone has done this. I am happy to modify the bumper to suit.

Cheers.

Seen a couple of people replace the plastic gas bottle cover with a tool box with the back cut out and cans on the side.
Or just put the bottle in a box.
Do you have extended drawbar? Maybe get those bolt on ones there.
Or as you said rear bar.

22.68-1 does not have a very high towball weight. I would be averse to mounting anything weighty on the rear bumper - let alone a couple of jerry cans which when full could easily weigh 50kg.

Just my two bob.

Thanks for the replies guys, another reason I am looking at the rear bar is because I have the WDH brackets and a stone guard on the drawbar, so not a lot of real estate left over for jerry holders.

Recall others warning that you aren't allowed flammable liquids on the rear bar so no to petrol but might be allowed for diesel. Suggest checking before fitting any holder.

I know it is not a Starcraft but I put this behind my stone guard and the WDH brackets still fit in front (I have taken them off in this pic)

Gas bottles are now relocated inside the box (vented and bracketed properly)
I also have 2 Jerrycan holders on the back bar as well.

This is the rear bar on our Journey, I have a ball weight scale and have checked it with them full and empty and it doesn't change the ball weight very much. I only use them for carrying extra water when we free camp.

Did you need to strengthen/replace the rear bar to mount the wheel and 40Kg's of water?

It's on our 2015 Journey so the wheel was already there, didn't do anything to the bar, but I only use it to carry extra water when we free camp and really need it, rest of the time I leave the containers at home, it also comes in handy for carrying fire wood for short distances.

I have the same thing on the back of the Expanda but minus the spare wheel as it is mounted under
I did not strengthen the bar and it has been along a heap of terrible roads and all is good.

I have seen a bloke with a tool box mounted on his that carries his 2.6 kva generator and 20lt of fuel and he did not do any strengthening
he has done the Gibb River Road and no signs of falling off, when I asked him about whether he was worried about that he replied that he spoke to a fabricator about the weight and they said it would handle it no probs.

My understanding is that it's not the weight that's the major issue but the flexing and the potential effect on the welds.

Maybe I'm wrong!

I would think the weight (and potential bouncing) is what would cause the issue with the welds. From memory (I could be wrong) it's only bolted on, not even welded.

Thanks for all the replies guy. To test my rear bumper for strength I have stood and jumped on the spare tyre and it doesn't move, so an extra 40-50kg probably won't hurt too much but I will still look at strengthening up anyways.
