Tried many products over the years to get rid of mould, residue and bad tasting water but with no luck.
We found a product that is common with sterilising baby bottles.
Google came to the rescue and we stumbled across Miltons and haven't looked back since

Mixing rates are 500ml for 80ltr tank
Buy a 1ltr bottle and dilute 500ml into a 4ltr bucket.(One 1ltr Milton's does two 80ltr tanks)
Pour into tank with the aid of a funnel out of the 4ltr bucket, then fill the remainder of the tank out of filter hose water.
Then flush all lines/hot water system and let sit overnight.
Drain the solution in the tanks/hot water system and water lines.
Then refill and the water should taste great with no dodgy tasting water.
We also leave the tanks full when in storage to. Since completing this practice we have had great tasting water and no mould floating around in the tanks.
