On our first trip I tried to connect a cheapo bbq to the rear connection on the van but noticed the hose was too short. I am going to go all out and buy a weber Q but was wondering if anyone knows if you can buy extra long gas hoses?

Plus.... as the van has regulators at the bottles does the bbq hose require a regulator as well?

cheers sledge

Hi sledge,
We just got an extended 3m gas hose for our BBQ. We got it with a new regulator attached, so will take off the one currently supplied with our BBQ. Ours is from The BBQ factory. Don't know the cost as it was kindly given to us from some friends.
Well worth having, as we will be connecting to the spare gas bottle on the drawbar, and now we can pull it away from the canvas bed ends. Wasn't really keen on any fat fires right next to the Expanda.

yep - specialist Weber dealer's sell them...3m with the bayonet end

just be prepared to keep the old one if you plan swapping to cook from a gas bottle (just like I had to on the weekend about 2 mins before firing the Baby Q up !! :))

Yes you can get longer gas hose, we have a 3mtr for our Q it comes with the connection for the bayonet, it doesn't require another regular

thanks guys
Has any one noticed the pressure is less?
I bought a 1.8 meter hose and connected it to the bayonet fitting on my van and the BBQ was like it was on low. I connected the BBQ supplied hose straight to the bottle and it worked fine.
As my long hose has a bayonet fitting I can't connect it directly to the bottle.

3m S/steel protected are better than the 'weber specialist plastic' hoses for touring...

3m is the longest you can go as per AS's and gas regs.

@sledge No reg needed when connected off the vans bayonet. And extra 3m of hose will not reduce gas pressure...

@Paul are you using a weber Q BBQ? Some other BBQs have a built in regulator which will not work correctly when run off the vans, already regulated, bayonet supply

It's just a normal 2 burner but I have been using the hose it come with which has a regulator.
I will try to find some fittings so I don't use the BBQ regulator.

I ended up getting a weber plus a straight 3m hose and had no problems, so sounds like you have one too many regulators Paul.

Yeah I think so. I have ordered some adapters so the hose can go strait on the bbq. Hopefully that will fix it.

As an aside, I also use a three metre braided hose for my Weber Q. I also have a single dual ring cast iron burner which is good to use when cooking a stir fry or 'fragrant' curry outdoors.

I use what I believe is known as a Garth Snap Lock fitting at the end of the hose (female end) and use a male fitting on the Weber and Burner. You could of course use this on a range of appliances that use a regulated supply.

Here's one I found on the net but I bought mine from Bunnings a few years back.
http://www.hardwaresuperstore.com.au/shop/products/FITTING-SNAP-LOCK-BBQ.html

I needed another (cheap) adapter at the female end to change the thread size so it could attach to the Weber.

The 'spare' (they come as a set) female end I use on the normal shorter weber BBQ gas hose (which has the regulator) should I wish to use it away from the van with a portable gas bottle (the 4.5kg bottle works well for this).

Cheers

Nice one @Ligedy,

Timing is everything… Have just purchased the S/S 3m one - thanks for the link.

Just bought a Baby Q and needed a new 3m hose - BBQ Galore (a Weber speciality store) said they have never had 3m hoses from Weber and I did not know what I was talking about. I did not want to drive 2 hrs to our other nearest "specialist store". Another customer lost to the world of on-line shopping!

Hi

I liked the Snap Lock fitting so much (and I was tired of crawling under the van to get the slide out Gas BBQ fitting into the push in and twist fitting, that I installed a snap lock fitting instead. To stop getting dust into it, I always have a rubber cap over the end when not in use. This was another of my mods which I am amazed is not standard!

Thanks
Glen

Wrong one, that is BSP, you need SAE. They sort of fit but not right. Easy mistake to make.

Yep. New adapters arrived today. Fitted them up and removed the original bbq hose and it removed the problem. Silly extra regulator!
