Which petrol is more economical? I tow 2.5 ton 3.8 pajero,v8 cruiser or patrol all around $15 -20 with low kms ?? Self employed and only go 2-3 hrs from adelaide 4-5 times a year have 3 other cars so not after a new car. Thanks in advance
Not a direct answer but a perspective on 'economy'.
Say you travel 5 times a year 3 hours each way.
Let's call it 300km each way or 600km return.
In total 3000km of towing.
Car 1 uses 15 litres per 100km. In total it consumes 450 litres.
Car 2 uses 18 litres per 100km. In total it consumes 540 litres.
Car 3 uses 20 litres per 100 km. in total it consumes 600 litres.
At $1.60 per litre.
Car 1 costs $720 in fuel.
Car 2 costs $864 in fuel.
Car 3 costs $960 in fuel ($240 more than car 1).
I think in the scheme of things too much emphasis is sometimes placed on the elusive 'towing economy'.
Make this part of your decision but don't let it be the deciding factor in the scheme of the very many more expensive things (such as a simple repair) that are part of owning a car.
Can't help you with the Cruiser or Patrol, but I towed 2.5T with a 3.8V6 Pajero and it averaged for our 22000k trip just on 30lt/100k.
Mind you it had all this plus more on the roof, and a fridge, tools etc in the back.
I also had the LRA 60 lt sub tank fitted, so I had 150lt onboard. This helped make its towing range around 500k, not great at all, but it was far cheaper than an equivalent diesel one.
