Hi Guys

Great forum. I Figured i better introduce myself now that i have asked so many questions.

Mechanical engineer by trade, run a consulting business here in Tasmania. One minster for war and finance and three dirt magnets.

We recently upgraded from a custom built Xtrail Off road explorer camper trailer to a 2012 Jayco Expanda 14.44.4. The trailer already has solar and new TV antenna and a spring over conversion.

It is in really good nick with only small wear and tear.

  • SO far i have redone the 12V electric side, who ever did it before was doing it blind, but i like this sort of fiddly stuff.
  • Ran a new 50am supply from the car anderson plug, wired inline to charge the battery whist driving.
  • Converted the table to become a bed for the 2 year old.
  • Tightened all the screws, bolts, door latches, handles, hinges etc etc.
  • 30 Second cleaner the whole outside, then wash with Ct18 truck wash then maguaiers show and wax wash.
  • Washed and cleaned every bit inside including all the scuffs you get at low level.
Next few mods are in no particular order;
  • Replace the front fly mesh, mine is don't be rude house, no biggie been quoted 300 for all new fly at the front.
  • Wireless power power meter
  • Water tank level gauge, also second 90L tank.
  • Table storage in the front box
  • Heater and hot water, although not a necessity
  • LED lighting though out (already on order)
  • More external lighting
  • Lighting to each tool box
  • Re-Key each toolbox to have the same key on each. (use to be a locksmith)
  • New bigger tires and rims to match the tow rig (y62)
Here are a few pics for reference 20170502_203635.jpg 20170502_203635.jpg . Over all., it is small and cozy but should do us just fine. Coming form a camper trailer its a fairly substantial upgrade.

Youv'e found the magic of owning a Jayco, I redid the wiring and plumbing on my old 14 and while it was a astounding to see the QC, it did allow me to get to know the rig........................you will certainly find a heap of mods for the 14's which is one of the best models, they will follow you anywhere...................................

It already has massive brakes, my P3 is at 5V and locks up so happy there.

I will see how it goes with bigger wheels because of the spring over conversion it would sit too high.

Thanks

Technically putting larger wheels would require a modification plate added but nobody but the pedantic do, as for brakes you either have 10" or 12" and the shoe area is about the same anyway so why bother......................................rolling the axle will give about 100mm extra height so anymore just makes more problems while changing rims needs careful thought and measuring all of which you more than likely are conversant with.
