Here is my bottle jack held down by the same setup (but modified) used to hold the scissor jack.

Also fitted a tube under the boot to carry tent poles. It holds 8 poles and the three used for a front porch.

Jayco Corporation Pty Ltd—Selected Jayco Caravans
PRA No.
2014/14003
Date published
25 Feb 2014
Product description
Selected Jayco Caravans

Identifying features
Selected Chassis Numbers between P70038 & R72141
What are the defects?
Six Jayco caravans will require a heavier duty jack to be supplied as the current jacks do not meet requirements. In addition, 126 vans require a new safety sticker be fitted to the jack.

What are the hazards?
Should the jack supplied be used it may not withstand the weight of the van and collapse.

What should consumers do?
The owners of the 126 vans that require a sticker replaced will be sent new stickers in the mail or they can book in at the nearest Jayco Dealer or Service Agent to have the sticker replaced.

The remaining 6 vans that require a new Jack, the customers will be called directly and a new jack will be sent to the home address and the customer is requested to remove the old jack from the van and dispose of it.

Mmmm.......

@crackacoldie might have appreciated this info last week.

I can attest to the fact that Jayco supplied Jacks are not the only ones.

Other manufacturers also supply ones "not fit for the purpose" as I discovered last week. I still need to get a bottle jack suitable for an offroad 2tonne van.

Just noticed the recall date.....25/2/2014.

Is there a later one?

And any indication of which six models were /are affected?

Very vague and non specifics or a recall?

Ok. I'm now confused! Again.

Recall notice February 2014 for those chassis numbers.
Our expanda (now sold) was a September 2014... No idea of chassis number.

But....Jack, from memory, was a scissors type which I took out to look at but never had to use it. I didn't realise at the time it could be inadequate and now I'm not sure if it was!

From those with a van younger than this February 2014, has the Jack been improved?

I'm now faced with a similar issue with another manufacturer about the Jack. I regard their offering as inadequate but will wait till I can actually see it....then replace it with a bottle Jack for my peace of mind. No drama as I'm aware of a potential problem and can sort it out with little cost.

But I'm also not sure if Jayco have sorted out the issue? Curiousity on my part but it could be important to many forum members.

My jack for the 2009 14.44.3 wouldn't lift the van so they have more than likely been useless since before that date anyway........subject has been brought up many times and has been mentioned that one should check out how to get a wheel off before you go away but many don't and are surprised that it wasn't checked at a service, which always makes me laugh.........................................................................@Dobbie if you need a jack just a 2ton bottle jack from any of the car spares shops will do the job unless you want to lift from the chassis then you would have to get one of those bottle jacks that have all the extension bits included (forgotten the brand name) lifting from the chassis I reckon is scary, might be okay on the shop floor but pretty hairy on the side of the road................A trolley jack is not suitable unless you intend to get flat tyres on the servo driveway.

Will do @DroverSir....when I get a van! Want to wait so I can check measurements.

Thought I might get it colour coded and with frills on...as long as it works.

Colour coded, now thats a good idea.......................I could buy a few from Supercheap, some spray cans of the appropriate colours and sell them with 250% mark up, make a fortune as everyone knows they work better if the colour is right.................................I have a black and a yellow one.

Hi, we have only just received our Expanda so pardon my ingnorance. However, if we just want to change a flat tyre, can't we just drive the other tyre up onto a levelling ramp which I gather let the flat tyre hang and so allow us to change it? Of course I am referring to a dual axel caravan.

With dual axle it's not a problem as long as still hooked up to the vehicle and also depends on the terrain

I've got a 2 tonne Kincrome bottle jack in the back of the ute - currently about $40 from the big green shed. Thankfully never had to use it but would rather take my chance with it than the factory supplied scissor jack that is now buried somewhere in the shed. Will lift the axle up but as others have said, too low to lift the chassis.
