The biggest thing on the Jeeps for a major service is a good tranny specialist the rest is just eye candy, I have a distrust on dealers doing a service, whats the km's on it now Dave ??

Roofing plumber just checked the house and shed roof for hail damage, I suddenly thought if the hail had broken the paint the salt air here would take a hold in a short time, looks like new roofs all round, thats cool better than a rusty roof in a few years............... In Poo as forgot to ring Son in Law about it, he would have quoted for it as he has his own firm just thought he was too far away, I now know he could have done it, bugga, could have got some extras done, oh well must be getting old to let something like that slip past...............want to take boat out but Nurse Nancy won't let me till Xmas..............

Take a boat out??? It’s blowing it’s guts out lol
Jeep has 130k needs diff oil change, coolant change etc and a tranny service, mates son in law used to look after it, I do oil and filter changes but that’s it now. I wish I knew some one here but I don’t, might have to investigate further. That’s bad news about the roof and another reason I will never have tiles I carted hundreds or tons of the back in the day, nuff said

Tin roof I don't like tiles............doing the tranny is easy with a pit but a damn pain on small ramps.....not much to do other than drop the oils, its the transfer case oil that jeep uses is a rip off, the Mopar stuff is around $50 a Lt it is actually Mobil 424 trans oil which last time I bought a drum was $6/lt ... Yeah tad windy nearly blew the fella off the roof but even if it wasn't I'm still not allowed to take boat out, wise choice really don't want to break anything inside...aarrgghh.

Worked on and owned various Jeeps for over 25 years.Currently have a WH GC 2010 diesel here and a 2012 WK diesel Overlander in NZ so going over there on Tues for 3 months 4x4 ?touring.( born in NZ) Both these have the Mercedes box, easy to change fluid and filter however just remember to measure amount that you drain out. I fill and change fluid twice ,drive around the block between fills .Change fluid every 30000ks if towing.
Had proper roofer looking at our tile roof on Sat .Mainly for insurance purposes. If you have not had a roof check in the last couple of years he said be aware many insurance companies will not pay out.Read the small print ,some say ,you declare the roof is in good order.

I did like my Jeeps and yes tranny change every 30-40,000kms meant 300,000km of trouble free, mind they never went to a dealer and I found the Merc engine and boxes not too bad except for fuel filter change, that was a pain to do until I fitted the extra filter.........................I made a dip stick for mine and marked it so refilling wasn't a drama, having big walk under ramps made the whole job a breeze.....................................wish they did a decent sized Ute.

Touring NZ would be magic, had a ball last century when I drove around the North Island a little bit, work got in the way though and I always wanted to go back and wander the South Island in my own time and doing it in a Jeep would be very nice.......................

So another big marketing ploy today with the Black Friday sales which applies to USA but not really here as we don''t have Thanksgiving but why stand in the way of sucking coin from wallets, Christmas just around the corner to empty whats left.............

Just booked the Jeep into a new mechanic he asked all the right questions so hopefully he looks after it okay, I do most services but its due for coolant. brake fluid, transfer case and diff oil changes too hard now for this old fella, the dealer refused to change the tranny fluid, they said its not necessary even though i told them its been treated like a stolen car all of its life. Anyway all good we collect the new van on the 7th Dec (apparently)

cheers @BJM i spoke to the mechanic and he said all the right things and asked the right questions so he appears all over it, we even discussed Mopar recomended oil for the diffs and I told him the dealer uses Castrol and he said yes but it needs an additive with it, so he seems on top on top of things, at least he passed the attitude test but I find most businesses up this way do which is nice

Yep, spot on @BJM , my diffs got Penrite but the additive bit is really a bit old hat and not needed unless your using genuine Mopar which I would never use anyway except for the power steering fluid that I did use genuine Mopar fluid as it was cheaper or just the same price as Penrite and others, and with a hydraulic fan you didn't want the wrong brew as it could turn the seals for steering and fan to jelly........................... I used to buy all my filters and tranny oil from MB Spares in Fyshwick, ACT. Front up with the Benz part numbers and walk away with a box of quality parts, filters, O rings, oils and save a few hundred $$$$ at the same time cmpared to buying at Repco etc, save about $500 compared to dealer prices and other spares I would order from Rockauto.com in the US, faster delivery than here in AUS and still save buckets of $$ even with the freight.....but other than service parts hardly ever needed anything major...........I wish I had the Grands seats in my Colorado though...........................

Same here Dave, I sometimes wait for Repco and their 25 to 30% off and buy a 10lt keg or 2 of my favourite Penrite or Castrol Magnetec Diesel sometimes I've managed to get 2 for nearly the price of one...................the filters sometimes come in blister packs of 6, big savings to be made then but it would depend on if you do lots of miles each year....Donaldson and Western Filters often have filter kits online going at very good prices as well.

Well Jeep now ready to roll, $1300 which is reasonable these days, I was quoted by a certain Jeep dealer in Noosaville $5,000 to fix a slight oil leak, turned out to be the intercooler hose has a small pin hole in it, $900 from Jeep, I bought one from evil bay from London for 50 quid genuine Jeep spare part I have no words
