Hi this is my first post! We have a hilux 2012 model dual cab and a 16.49 1 expanda. We are off for a 6 month trip around Nt & wa and I want to take 3 bikes with us. Has anyone considered putting the bikes on top of the tow vehicle? I've read other posts about putting the bikes on the front & back of van & the disadvantages of each. Any feedback/ideas appreciated

Welcome Kat...

Will follow this with interest.

Lots of ideas etc on here and sure someone will have tried. My only concern is lifting them on and off all the time.

BJ.

And here they are on the Jeep.
99 bikes has the Thule racks on special at the moment too.

They are seriously quick and easy to use.

Our van has the Fiamma bike rack on the rear, but i was a little nervous having 3 on it, so i put my mountain bike on a roof rail. I went with the front fork mount version because all the "wheel on" models had a little too much side wobble for me, especially for rough roads.

The fork mount one i use was $75 is very easy to load and very solid on the car. The down side would be im 6ft, so the loader persons height would be critical for it not to end up a "funniest home video". My partner wouldnt be able to load the bike

Ours go on the roof rack, and i'm a short bastard with a tall car.
We made them up from the left over pool fencing uprights (so any fencing would do), and i just fitted a front axel off old bikes
so they can bolt down. They come off within a minute or two. Great for a cheaper option.

I've just bought off eBay 4 of the rooftop bike carriers. They are a knockoff copy of the Thule ones. I got 4 delivered for $400. So far I've fitted one just to test it and didn't have any issues.

Hey @Matty4

You don't have a web link for those knockoff roof racks buy any chance?

@Cootay and @skippy ,
these are the ones I bought, although they had them at 10% off a couple of weeks ago, so they cost me $337 + delivery.

One of them is missing a couple of the T-track bolts but I let them know and they're posting me out some.
No biggie.
Thanks for that @Matty4 I am looking at purchasing just the one because the Van carries 3 and I need a extra one for SHMBO!
