Hi Everyone,

Time for an introduction! Our little family recently joined the ExPanda ranks after buying our 2012 14.44 from @jdove back in July although I didn’t find this forum until after that. It took us a while to get the van back from the sunshine state to the place to be (in summer), Victoria and we just had our first weekend away.

This is our first van and it is definitely a step up from the tent, it feels so luxurious! We got the van complete with all bed ends, annex, awning fly’s etc. and spent a bit of time on the first trip working it all out. It’s now a process of working through our to-do/buy lists and figuring out caravaning in general and what all that cupboard space is for, the tent had much less storage, but I’m sure we’ll fill it.

Thanks to everyone involved for making this forum a great place, not just full of advice on such a wide range of (mostly) relevant topics J but also friendly. I’ve certainly got a few ideas for some mods to suit our mainly bush-based camping requirements which I’ll share as they come along and no doubt post questions as well, although I’m sometimes tardy with responses! (sorry).

Have a great night.

Adrian.

Welcome to the forum, you will find that this is a great place to get lots of tips and advice. I looked at all the other forums before joining this one and found that many of them were full of “ knockers” and complainers. This forum forum is mainly made up of people who want to offer good advice and find “ solutions” to members problems.

Welcome @AdrianVVV, I would expect buying a very neat looking van like yours from a forum member like @jdove would have come with a forum recommendation ... maybe they were ashamed of us (or some of them, very likely).

Welcome aboard @AdrianVVVJust a shame you had to go back to the South, :behindsofa: Still, there are some great folks down there and all willing to help.
Youll soon see all the very best people and the very best advice will come from Victorians, but we respectfully nod and tip our hats to the north. They seem to like it when we do that ;)

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the kind words of welcome. I didn't intend to kick off some friendly interstate rivalry, but I see that's easy to do around here. For the record @jdove certainly did tell me about the forum but said to stay clear of those whingers...

Have a great night.

Adrian.

PS. @jdove didn't really say that... But he did tell me about the forum.
PPS. We all know which state is best, it's not really a contest.

Actually the talk here is that WA is going broke and we have to support you guys now the mining boom is over! :biggrin-new:

The relativity can be loosely equated to the amount of GST a state receives for each dollar of GST collected in that state.
Table 2: GST relativities since 2010

NSW Vic Qld WA SA Tas ACT NT
10‑11 0.95 0.94 0.91 0.68 1.28 1.62 1.15 5.07
11‑12 0.96 0.9 0.93 0.72 1.27 1.6 1.12 5.36
12‑13 0.95 0.92 0.98 0.55 1.28 1.58 1.2 5.53
13‑14* 0.97 0.9 1.06 0.45 1.26 1.61 1.22 5.31
14‑15* 0.98 0.89 1.08 0.35 1.25 1.7 1.27 5.47
15‑16* 0.99 0.9 1.05 0.37 1.21 1.78 1.29 5.4
16‑17* 0.99 0.91 1.05 0.38 1.2 1.76 1.28 5.28

Sooooooooooooo
please tell me again, how the GST is distributed fairly and equitably

it sounds so unfair. Across Australia, the GST will give state and territory governments an average of $2370 for every resident next financial year. But the umpire has decided that one will get a lot more, some a bit more, some a bit less – and Western Australia will get just $714 per resident, 30 per cent of the national average.

unfortunately for the "Federation" of Australia, there is a lot of Labor Politicians looking at Catalonia & Spain...........
becoming a separate member of the Commonwealth of Britain.............

As stated above Welcome to the mob @AdrianVVV , the jaw flappers have had their 2 bob's worth by now and you will surely have a great time with your 14.44, they are a great rig and you will find some great threads on here about them................

Some do tend to wander off topic though, they just can't help themselves.

I can see your point. I run a business, and its generally not regarded as "good times" when I spent $1.00 to make $0.90.

Lets face it, Western Australia has been a bit half ar$ed about the Commonwealth from the beginning, and this isnt the first time youve threatened to leave us. You still retained many of the laws the rest of gave up, hedging your bets. (although probably good thinking right there)

You'll have to drop Australia from Western Australia, so from now on youll be just Western ... or Them ... or Eastern Madagascar. To the rest of us South Australia will become Western Australia; I can see this becoming a little confusing. Youll need a new passport (Prince Leonard can probably help there), currency, army, navy, airforce. Youll need to find your own Wiggles, Russell Crowe and Dame Edna. Youll need to stop playing the National Game (should be ok, your not to good at it anyway). Us east coasters will for the first time be able tow a caravan to another country, that will be kinda cool and after the plummeting mining industry the currency conversion should favour us.

Before you make a firm commitment, after looking at your figures above could I offer a possible solution. It would seem a simple resolution to cut NT (and possibly Tas) loose and divvy up the spoils. Deal ??? Welcome back :cheerful:

Hello again,
Well that certainly got out of hand didn't it - again! I'm certainly not going to argue either point, I haven't looked into it enough to be suitably informed. Has anyone heard of the Hutt River Principality? (sorry couldn't help myself)

To diffuse the situation I thought I post a photo of my first mod, it is truly EPIC in proportion the likes of which this forum has probably never seen...

It's a rubber band!

I've got the Hyland hitch and have been looking for some way of providing a little bit of security when it is attached to the car (to keep it attached) so I have found a padlock that fits the hitch. I read somewhere on here that someone had the hitch articulate which jammed the lock in the mechanism resulting in a padlock projectile and possible damaged hitch. Hopefully this fancy rubber band will hold the padlock into the hitch where it can't get stuck.

On another matter what have people used to provide a bit more security when parked at home? While I don't live in a high crime area, I'd prefer to be safe than sorry. I've looked at the Saracen hitch lock but they don't make one for this hitch and the standard hitch locks don't fit. I think I'll end up with a "trailer cop" type when parked and padlock when on the tow ball, has anyone got any experience with that lock type? good/bad?

I guess I should probably start another "my van" thread to post more information and questions rather than putting it all here - I'll look into it...

Thanks,

Adrian
