AC releasing hot air into cabin

Evenin' All,

During the last trip the Air con got it's first real work out and I noticed that there is hot air entering the cabin from under the seat where the compressor/condensor is installed.

The air from the head unit itself was fine and cold, however the general temp of the van never really got that cool (especially down the end of the condensor) because it was leaking hot air into the cabin.

Anyone experienced and rectified something similar. (did a search but couldn't find anything).

Cheers,
JJ

The holes under the Expanda aren't obstructed? Am I right in that you bought it 2nd because if so some people including a few of this forum have built a trap door to stop dust getting in there while travelling on dirt roads.

Has yours had this mod done and maybe your not aware of it? Stone Stomper has this mod on his maybe take a look through his thread.

Let us know what you find.

A busy Weekend had this one.

1st. The Aircon air intake under the van is exposed by 6 rather large round holes. Stone Stomper did a great mod which we based our off. You can find his here: http://www.expandasdownunder.com/showthread.php/718-Air-Con-Air-Intake?highlight=intake

We got two pieces of checkerplate, some hinges and a couple of barrel bolts. The hinges are secured through not only the exposed timber but also the metal plate behind the timber. Just have to be careful not to drill into the air con unit. Found a small piece of timber that would fit up in the hole to ensure we did not hit it. :)
Here is the finished product.

we just got back from travels and found the same thing. It became quite uncomfortable sitting on the seat over the condenser and drawer......
It was still blowing hot air out side via the vent tho

OUrs does the same, I think it is normal as the unit is under the seat the heat does make the area pretty hot.

I am going to install some extra fans under there so help the heat go outside quicker.

Another mod i need to do :)

Pulled things open today but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, so it must just be air leaking through a couple of little gaps. I think I'll buy some foam like material and pack it under the seat and around the condensor's box to lessen the amount of warm air that can leak through.

Any see any issues with doing that?

First thing I thought of was silicone. I think I would just check the maximum temperature and flex of the product you choose.
