They stopped making the 12 footers in 2008 so there will only be a few out there of this vintage (especially with the hard lid) ... I have to say we love ours even after living in it for 6 months! Good luck with the hunt.

Hi jacbaz,
Good to hear you still liked it after living in it for 6 months....Pick up any issues with it besides the norm Jayco lack of dust sealing stuff!

Not wanting to spruik my own wares too much but there is a "tiny lizard" as we call it, a 11ft Gecko released by New Age.

Mrs Smergs and I love the little convenience of it and cosiness, but it might have to wait a few years until the crew have flown the coop.

Just a thought.

They do look good @Smergen ... But yes, I think you may well have a few years before you think of down sizing

Hi jacbaz,

The main issue we found was that because ours is an on road model, the clearance was a big issue. Before our big trip, Baz rehoused the spare wheel from under the aframe to on top of it, and when we got back we had it raised by 50 mm through Hardings in Kilsyth. This has made a big difference. We didn't have a huge issue with dust which was good, and like we said it is a very comfortable van for two people.
PS the other major issue was the uncomfortable mattress. This was due to the two different thicknesses of mattresses - once Baz slept on the uncomfortable seam, it was decided that this needed fixing - we fixed this by building up the storage box under the bed and then getting a new mattress which folds in half in the centre for packing up. We now have the best nights sleep. Will add any other things as I remember them!

Thnx...My Prado has a 45mm lift kit so will definitely need the outback with the clearance. I wondered whether the mattress would be an issue looking at the seam.

Hi Dingo
They were still making them in 2010 as we have an outback model (12.37I think)and love it for many of the reasons you want one. They are hard to find especially later ones in outback version but worth searching for. I have a mate in NSW on a similar hunt. Happy for you to look over ours for ' inspiration' if you like I'm on Brissy North side. We tow ours with a Prado with 40mm lift and it tows easily.
Re mattress we use a mattress topper which helps.
There is this one on van sales that I think is up north cairns maybe similar to our layout but has a short cupboard near bed instead of usual full height. Maybe worth a flight to look then road trip to pick up. We drove to Vic to buy ours sight unseen but it was then only 3 years old and seller assured me was in good condition which it was.

Cheers

Hi thnx Rags appreciated.we were in contact with the people that own that one. Unfortunately, the more I looked at the further pics sent, the more I found wrong. The front boot has gone Yellow and there is a bit of mould and the tyres look like they are feathering on inside edge I just couldn't put a price on it. They have dropped $2k already. The problem is we are pretty fussy with how our possessions look. Thnx for the offer to look, really appreciated,we have looked at one in Nth Brissy. we really like them. Further we like the community involvement on this site..

I too wanted a 2008+ 12 footer but ended up snapping up a 2005 one for $15,600 couldn't say no as it was an outback version too. keep your eyes peeled. this is mine. The main reason i bought it was it is very well kept (I too like things to look good like you). it has a wall a/c unit which a lot didn't and the full annexe. although the annexe looks ancient its barely been used and it in mint condition.

Here is my buildup thread I have started if you are interested at all for ideas. All the best. Brenton

Thats awesome to know. Thanks .Just looked at an 09 non outback...and he had cut a complete bed screen out, so it wasnt too obvious, the window cover was very yellow...so it had been out in the sun a lot.. so that was a no for us.
Well keep looking.

other option is if you find a non outback just spin the axle around for better clearance. would be fine for basic beach work if you drive nice and easy. otherwise keep an eye out for the outback.

Agree looked at that...to do it properly with engineers certificate was $1000 on The Sunny Coast. Wasnt sure of the insurance ramifications of doing it myself, which wouldnt be hard.
Thanks for the comment.
