Hi all,

I was getting one of our work generators ready for a deployment to the floods in Parkes today.

I tried to start it, and it would kick over but the oil light was coming on, and stopping.

I went to check the oil, and the crankcase full of petrol.

I then googled it, and found a youtube video of exactly the same thing

The fuel tap was left on, and it must have leaved through the carby and into the crankcase.

I've never seen this before, and thought it might be of interest to those with Yamaha genny's

No idea if this issue is just specific to Yamaha?? But as a matter of course I just don't transport any small petrol engine with the fuel tap on.

This can happen to anything with a fuel tap, the tap should allways be turned off.

Been using small engines in pumps and generators for nearly 40 years and have never seen or heard of it before.

Will be making sure the fuel tap is off from now on

Same here with no problems. Have had issues with carby's flooding and spewing fuel out but not filling the sump!
Maybe, just by chance, an inlet valve just happened to be open at the right amount??

Sorry guys but this is quite common were engines have fuel tank located above engine, have had no end of trouble with people leaving petrol fire pumps with fuel tap left on and then drive around. Can take awhile to get decent amount of fuel into sump tho.
As stated above always turn fuel tap as a matter of course to prevent unessacary problems.

Gee you have been lucky @Bellbirdweb
