Just had look through this thread after using my new tow pro elite. The latest model doesn't need calibration at all. It constantly monitors the the vehicle and adjusts itself as you go. You can adjust the bias between the car and van, so far I have followed the instructions and set it on 5 out of 10 which is supposed to be neutral. No clunking or pulling from the trailer and no locking of brakes. I saw them on the shelf at RV superstore for $250. You can still put in manual mode and just press the button for emergency braking. Don't have that annoying box under the dash anymore!

I run mine on around 2.5 -3 depending how full the van is.

The new Tow Pro Elite does not need calibration if has been installed correctly. However, it needs to be attached to a solid surface very securely. When I picked up my new Landcrusier the dealer has installed the Tow Pro Elite very badly, they had used double sided tape onto a plastic cover. It moved too much and would calibrate and then not be calibrated.

Fixed this by securing it to a metal bracket with some tight cable ties, this stopped the excessive movement and allowed the Tow Pro Elite to calibrate and it has been OK for 28,000km of some very rough roads. generally leave it automatic (blue LED) even off road and find it works well for our 2.5 tonne van between 3 and 4 depending on conditions. Occasionally doing steep descents like in the Talbingo Mtn in the Snowies, etc. I might wind it up to 5,and wind it back to 3.5 when down.

Mine is fitted low down on the dash near the door, but can be bumped with your knee, so as part of my checks each day I check the set number and usually do a slow speed stop to check if all ok. I have had the earlier Tow Pro and it was very good, but the Elite is better, it also works well with our Dexter Sway Control (DSC).

PS Each morning we check the brake system by slow speed stop checking that the Tow Pro LED goes from Blue to Red (crimson). Also after hooking up the electricals looking to see if Dexter's LED is green (also say good morning to Dexter who quietly follows us and just does his job with little fuss), sometimes Dexter needs to be woken up by just putting foot on brake pedal.
