Supposedly gas Regulations?
Never looked further into it after that, hopefully they weren't telling porky pies.
I spoke to the gas guy who we use at work and he looked through the regulation book and said as long as the heater or appliance is 300 mm away from a hatch and 500mm from a window is fine to put in the rear of van.

Been away for awhile and congrats on your acquisitions guys!

@Smash what are you thinking with you spare wheels? I have two (due to the travelling we want to do) and was also thinking duel spares on the rear bumper. But then i also started thing about placing jerry can holders either side of the factory spare mount on rear, and then having an under slung spare infront of the front water tank. Was thinking of having a wind down mechanism like most vehicles do. This then keeps the drawer bar free for a generator box or other things. Thoughts...???

P.s - Tow tug has been upgraded....couldnt go passed a new Ranger! First big trip in a month so will give an update if i remember

I will probably fit it to the bumper as I want to fit two more tanks underneath 1 normal tank and 1 dump tank.

Hi. We have ordered our 19.61-3OB with the build starting this week. We have arranged plenty of upgrades but aren't sure if we should go with the compressor fridge? Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated..

Yes if you can get them to fit an Eva Cool fridge no if they use the usual make too much power consumption needs alot of batteries and solar.

Hi Smash and thanks for the reply. They are using a waeco compressor fridge at the moment. We have upgraded to 300w of solar and a second battery but not sure about the fridge. I also have a compressor fridge in the ute that we are happy with..

We have the threeway thetford fridge. I would love to have a compressor fridge, however I'd very very uncertain that we would be able to keep up with the power needed to run it. We have 300 w solar and two 100ah batts . Had the same setup In last van and I don't feel we would have the power to run the fridge along with lights , dvd, radio, fans, charges ect for
extended stays(a long weekend maybe/solar dependent ). If we were getting great sunshine everyday I'm sure it would do it easy.
To give an example , over the last xmas new year we were away five days by the lake . Unfortunately it was overcast(and a bit of rain) for 4 days. Still hot weather though so fridges were still cycling as per normal (we had a 40l engle and 35l waeco using the 12v from the van along with all the other useful/useless items we power and After the 5th day we needed a charge but we were heading home anyhow.
Most of the time we have plenty of power and are coming home with close to full batteries. But there have been a couple of trips that we have to try to conserve a bit.
Just on our usage and current set up I believe I would have no bufferzone if we were using 12v for the main fridge instead of gas.
One day.....

A friend has a caravan with the waeco compressor fridge which jayco are using and they have 3 x150watt panel and 2 x100amp batteries and is fine when the sun out but slightly cloudy day they need to brake out the generator at end of the day.

Thanks very much for the input Pauly and Smash. I think we will leave it as is with the 3 way. Spoke with the dealer yesterday and the van has just gone into production. Looking forward to delivery around the start of October. Can't wait.

Time to start making a new accessory and mod list… just ordered the 19.61-3 OB TL today and should get it in December just in time for xmas!

It’s been a while between posts - my kung fu panda was sorted exactly how I wanted it - It’ll be sad to see the 17.56-2 OB go (will be posted for sale in October) as it's been an awesome rig but can’t wait to get into a full van with fixed bed and separate en-suite facilities. Just a tad concerned with the extra height and weight to tow though…

2017 19.61-3 Outback with:
  • T.L Pack with fabric seats
  • Extended A-Frame
  • Rear View Camera
  • 3kg Washing Machine
  • Water filter to sink
  • Drifter Control Panel
  • Picnic Table
  • Bike Rack
  • External Shower
  • Anti-Flap Kit + 2 x Arch Rafters
  • Tri-Fold Table
  • 150 Watt Solar Panel Upgrade
  • Centre Mounted Jockey Wheel
  • 3rd 82l Water Tank
  • Divider Curtain at main bed
  • TV Sensor Pro
  • Suspension and 600kg Payload Increase
  • Extra 240v Power Point
  • Shelves to wardrobe cupboard
@Laneway @Chippy 79 @Pauly @Smash @SMartin – how you liking the new Starcraft? Any in and outs / things you wish you got from the factory to look out for? What sort of Tare Mass is your van (I've read the extras listed in previous posts).

Cheers, Ligedy

Well done , ya won't regret it!!! Looks like a good list of extras too.
Our weights on tag. I am yet to put it over a bridge.
Tare 2378
ATM 2978

Loving ours! So much better than the poptop but I loved that too, must be just getting lazy...
Only thing I would like to have ticked but didn't is the larger roof hatch at the front. Just could not justify the $$$$ extra like 6-700 if I remember correctly.I would have liked it but still wouldn't have ticked it.
Compressor fridge I would have liked but I don't believe we would have sufficient 12v power to run it.
I probably should have got them to do an offside and rear light but that's only because I haven't gotten around to doing them myself yet.
I'm glad we didn't sorta pay for the rear cam as was part of the 'show pack' as it's useless in the rain ( so far each time we've been away it's rained) but nice to have it when clear and clean.
I'd like to put another 150 solar panel on the roof and maybe put another 200ah of batts in. That comes down to our obvious over use of power not a mark against the van.

For us jayco have got this model pretty perfect for us , so has not needed any mods of great significance.
I'm sorta in the mind zone of drip feeding the few additions that we'd like as they are really not essential just yet.

Havnt used ours free camping yet but the one thing i would recommend is to upgrade your solar capacity. We upgraded sizes and added another panel (300w) and also added another battery (200ah).......my theory is you can never have enough i guess.
I didnt get a reverse camera on order, but in hindsight wish i had

OK yeah, I have 2 panels + 2 batteries on the Panda running everything plus a 2000W inverter... did the job really well but was thinking I can live without the Nespresso machine when free camping and decided to run with only one battery. I will upgrade to 300W / 2 solar panels though - def better for charging up one battery (or second battery if I add one down the track).

What Tare Mass and towball weight you got?

@Ligedy off the top of my head my tare is 2370kg and tow ball is listed at 199kg. Have not been over a weigh bridge yet but with a little gear in it i think will be interesting figures.

Hi @SMartin do you know what size Waeco compressor fridges they are offering for this van? Is it the 190ltr or the 218ltr?
Thanks

I think 218 ltr but both these fridges you need a lot of power for the cloudy days normally have to break out the generator. If I decided to put a compressor fridge in I would fit an EVa Kool fridge a lot better and more efficient.

@Laneway how do you go with your ute towing. I am about to purchase the same caravan and am thinking of towing with my new auto hilux diesel 4x4 Sr5 but bit unsure how far to push it with fam onboard. Otherwise will have to think about buying a Disco for the wife as the tow rig.
